O Uicipeid

The Gaelic Wikipedian residency at the National Library of Scotland, supported by Wikimedia UK and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, runs with one part-time post from January 2017 to January 2018.

The first month's activities included meeting with many related posts with the Libary (the Head Librarian, Press and publicity team, HR and admin teams, Rare Books, Digital Access team and the Gaelic Community of Interest group) and with other Wikimedians, in particular Ewan McAndrew, Wikimedian in Residence at the University of Edinburgh , and Sara Thomas, previous WiR at Museums Galleries Scotland. There was also induction at Wikimedia UK offices in London. The project page for the residency was created (in Gaelic/English versions).

Attended Edinburgh Open Knowledge Meet-up and gave a lightning talk on Uicipeid and the project.

Uicipeid meet-ups

Held online Skype meeting with existing Uicipeid wikipedians. Topics discussed included: redesigning Uici main page to be clearer for new users; which training/how to guides required for new users; developing a ‘training project’ on historic sites for users to learn step-by-step.

Began plans to run events with the Royal National Mòd (in Fort William), Seachdain na Gàidhlig (in Edinburgh), Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (in Skye).
