Zusammenschluss mit der Gemeinde Rohr durch Fusionsvertrag vom 17.10.2007, Beschlüsse des Einwohnerrates Aarau und der Einwohnergemeinde Rohr vom 10.12.2007, durch Urnenabstimmungen vom 24.02.2008. Genehmigung durch den Grossen Rat vom 28.10.2008. In Rechtskraft seit 01.01.2010.
Object history
Deutsch: Das städtische Siegel von 1270 zeigte einen Adler und eine dreiblättrige Linde mit Blüten. Eine Abbildung des Wappens in der Tschachtlanchronik von 1470 zeigt dagegen keine Linde, dafür ist erstmals ein rotes Schildhaupt über dem Adler zu sehen. Der Adler verdankt seine Verwendung als Wappentier der Stadt Aarau einer volksetymologischen Umdeutung des Namens als «Au des Aars».
